Troubleshooting
General
- Make sure the app is updated to the latest version via the App Store.
- Confirm the device has active internet access — FM Alerts requires a live connection to the backend.
- Use the Refresh health button to verify backend connectivity. A "200 — ok" response confirms the app can reach the server.
- If health shows "degraded," the backend is reachable but data freshness is below target — this is normal during off-market hours.
- Reopen the app if market data or events appear stale. A manual pull-to-refresh forces an immediate update.
Sign-in and access
- Equities Pressure and Futures Live sections require sign-in. If they show "Sign in to access," tap the sign-in card at the top of the app.
- If sign-in fails with "invalid credentials," double-check that the email is lowercase and the access code is entered exactly.
- Signing out clears all stored credentials locally. Sign back in to restore full access.
Push notifications
- Push notifications require a real iPhone — they do not work in the iOS simulator.
- On first sign-in, the app requests notification permission. If you declined, go to iPhone Settings → FM Alerts → Notifications and enable "Allow Notifications."
- Push alerts fire when an alert rule triggers and the event is delivered. If sounds play in-app but push notifications are not appearing, check that Do Not Disturb or Focus mode is not blocking them.
- Push registration happens automatically on sign-in. If notifications stop working after reinstalling the app, sign out and sign back in to re-register the device token.
Alert rules and sounds
- Sounds play only for new alert events — not on refresh or health checks. If you don't hear sounds on refresh, that is expected behavior.
- If a rule fires too frequently, increase the cooldown between alerts.
- Use the "movers_only" watchlist mode and filter tickers to create rules for the symbols currently showing meaningful moves.
- Rules set to log-only are recorded in the event stream but do not send email. Enable email delivery only for rules where inbox alerts are needed.
Equities Pressure
- Scores are 0–100. Scores above 55 indicate accumulation (bullish) or distribution (bearish). Scores 35–54 indicate caution. Below 35 is neutral.
- Scores may cluster around similar values during off-hours when only prior-day move data is available. Scores differentiate more during US market hours when intraday volume and news data are active.
- News sentiment scores reflect recent article tone — context only, not fundamental analysis.
Futures Live
- Futures signals are session-aware. During Weekend and Maintenance sessions, signals are suppressed — this is expected.
- During Asia and Europe sessions, thresholds are wider and fewer signals fire compared to the U.S. session. This reflects thinner liquidity in off-hours.
- If Futures Health shows "degraded" or stream age is high, tap "Refresh futures" to force a data fetch.
- Flow scores of 0 are normal during off-hours when the live stream has minimal trade activity.
FAQ
Do I need a brokerage account or trading access?
No. FM Alerts is a monitoring app only — it displays market data and delivers alerts. It does not connect to any brokerage, execute trades, or require trading permissions.
Is FM Alerts available on the App Store?
Yes. FM Alerts is available on the App Store. Search "FM Alerts" or use the Download link on the homepage. TestFlight is also available for early access to development builds.
Is every app section visible without signing in?
Backend health and the watchlist are visible without sign-in. Equities Pressure, Futures Live, alert rules, and event history require authentication.
Does FM Alerts work on iPad?
Yes. FM Alerts supports both iPhone and iPad. The layout adapts to larger screens and shows more information in the Futures Live and watchlist views.
What does "institutional pressure proxy" mean?
The equities pressure score is a proxy — it uses publicly licensed data (price, volume, news sentiment) to approximate directional pressure. It does not have real-time dark-pool visibility or true institutional flow data. The scoring is honest about what it can and cannot see.
What market hours does FM Alerts cover?
Equities alerts fire based on Alpaca snapshot data during and shortly after US market hours. Futures signals cover 24/5 with session-aware thresholds — U.S. (highest signal quality), Europe, Asia, and Weekend (suppressed). Rules are checked regularly around the clock.
What should I include in a support email?
Device model (e.g. iPhone 16e), app version (visible in TestFlight or App Store), iOS version, and a short description of the issue including what you expected vs what happened. Screenshots or screen recordings are helpful for UI issues.
